As of last Friday, I’m starting an Art 100 challenge. It’s a take on the 75 Hard that I’m switching it up to fit my life and goals. For 100 days (with a 10 day vacation break), I’m doing the following: 45 minutes of painting (or drawing or mixing paints or planning) 45 minutes of outside time 10 minutes of reading a book about the Impressionists (that has been untouched for a year) 4 liters of water Here’s what I have so far in the painting department! If you follow me on instagram (@hannahgordonartist), you can see my daily progress on my stories!
My summer confession: I haven’t painted in 3 months… eeek In some ways, I haven’t hit a lot of my summer “goals.” I haven’t camped yet, I haven’t climbed many mountains, I have barely done any art and no official paintings. But it has been full in so many different ways - family, friends, fishing, salmonberries, fireweed, and so much sun! Blueberries and deer hunting (in that order) are on deck for September and I can’t wait :) So here’s a quick look at my Alaska summer so far, and as the fireweed is telling me, it’s fading quick.
I'm sitting on my deck after 2 weeks of lovely weather here in Kodiak wondering how to describe what it's like to have my art up in such a wonderful business... Honestly, I don't think it's sunk in. The Islander Bookshop is located in the new Marketplace in downtown Kodiak. It's a central location for tourists and locals alike. To have a window location in one of the busiest parts of town is so much more than I could have hoped!
I've had one of my most exciting weekends with my art - I am officially selling my cards at the Islander Bookshop in downtown Kodiak! The Islander is such a support to so many local artists and makers and I am over the moon to have some items there. After summer fishing adventures I'll be adding more items to the store, so stay tuned!
The Crab Fest Art Show is this weekend! This is one of my favorite events I do. It's so cool to see all the secret artists in town and what they've created in the last couple of years. I've submitted four pieces (three of which will be for sale). I will be volunteering at the show Friday afternoon and evening - including the opening reception Friday from 5-8pm, so come see me! Be sure to step into the Fisherman's Hall this Friday through Sunday to see Kodiak's local art!
My sister and 6-year-old niece are coming to visit for a short trip this week! My niece is a prolific artist - always drawing, usually her own ideas rather than a coloring book (though, coloring books do make appearances as they should). I asked her if she has ever seen her mom draw or paint. "No." Should we ask her to paint with us? "NO!!!" You want it to be just us? "YES!" So, here's the side by side of two aspiring artists who are going to be working together this week to create some new things! (And a sneak peak at a painting that's about 85% done)
Come check out my new website AND ... drumroll please ... my online shop is now open! Having an online shop has been on my radar for a while and Lyric has helped me get my boost. It's a new website and system for me (and I'll never claim to be super tech-wise), so please feel free to give me feedback :)
